Woo! Go Sarah! You rock!
Transcript of Sarah's remarks
It looks like I'm the youngest of all the speakers today. And I came down with a bunch of college students!!! The age of the average undergraduate college student is 20 years and that is the same age as the most frequently killed US Military personnel. And we mourn our peers. We miss our peers, we grieve for our peers. And we grieve for the damage and the violence that they have unleashed in Iraq right now. And the violence is spiraling out of hand. And we just grieve that we are part of this. That our tax money is going to it and our friends lives are a part of this. And that all of America is a part of this. So that's why we're here today. And we know this war has to end.
Now this war is a sneaky war... it has continued to exist way longer than we thought it could. Four long years. Four long years. The persistence of this war is very funny because it's able to persist because it's not always the top of our consciousness. It's possible to wake up and go about one's business without really being aware of how this war is affecting our lives. but letting this war persist means that we say it's ok for there to be unimaginable violence that is unfounded and unjustified. We say that that's ok by letting this war persist. We also say that it's ok to let our social services not be to the quality that we deserve at home. We say that it's ok not to have disaster relief. We say that it's ok not to have adequate health care to the best of our capacity.. and to teach our children as they deserve. That's what we say when we let this war go on. And it's damaging our relationships with people all over the world. It's not making America safer. The students I think are with me and everybody in Worcester, from all over Worcester is here to say this war has gone on way too long. Peace peace peace, we need peace. .
