Worcester efforts to develop a Transgender Emergency Fund in Worcester continue, with the extremely successful, "Freedom!", drag show fundraiser held this past Friday, July 11th at Blü Nightclub.
Organizing work is not just all fun. The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC) is set to announce that it will be opening a Central Massachusetts chapter in early August. The kick-off is scheduled for August 10th and group leaders are disseminating an invitation to anyone who would like to work to support transgendered individuals.
Earlier stories: Worcester transgender organizing
The Worcester Transgender Emergency Fund responds to the needs of transgender people living in Central Massachusetts by providing immediate, short-term financial assistance to help low-income transgender people with basic human needs. Through the fund’s intervention, transgender people can maintain access to medical care and hormone therapy, avoid homelessness, and live with greater dignity and stability that discrimination too often denies them.
Freedom! featured performances by: Crystal Mess - Host,
Dan, Cae, Bootz, Christina - Miss Gay Worcester, Emperor Belle (Rhode Island), Oliver, Eddie the Bartender and Chaz DelRey, with DJ Patrick Allen.
Efforts are already underway for the next show, with the hopes of enticing a few community leaders and celebrities into supporting the initiative.

Great article and photo!
Nice job, Kevin. Thanks for this.
It was a total blast organizing this event. We got great coverage on Worcester Indymedia, Bay Windows, the New England Blade, and the Telegram and Gazette, among others. Thanks to all the media who supported this important project.
I'm so glad this article mentions the Mass Transgender Political Coalition kick-off on August 10th. People, this is truly the next step! We've done some fabulous events in Worcester, and MTPC folks have amazing accomplishments across the state. It's time to bring Worcester's energy together with MTPC's political organizing. Together, we are going to make a strong movement of the transgender community and allies here in Central Massachusetts, committed to the intrinsic human rights of trans folks, intersex folks, gender varient and gender queer folks, and all human beings, everywhere.
