ONLY 10 DAYS REMAIN BEFORE POOLS ARE CLOSED FOREVER?
Save Our Poolz Calls for Public Hearings

Worcester ~ The Save Our Poolz Coalition will hold a press conference at 12pm, on Thursday, August 7th at the Tacoma Park swimming pool, 385 Tacoma Street to mark the final ten days before the possible closure of four or more of Worcester’s municipal pools and to call for the City Council’s Youth, Parks and Recreation Committee to hold public hearings on the proposed closings.

Over one year ago Commissioner Robert Moylan first announced his proposal to close Worcester’s municipal pools. In a more recent report to City Council, Commissioner Moylan proposed closing four pools forever this August, and left open the possibility that more pools may need to be closed. While Save Our Poolz has continued to raise concerns about possible pool closures the City Manager’s Office and City Council have never held public hearings on the plans. Save Our Poolz, and supporters are calling on the Youth, Parks and Recreation Committee of the City Council to guarantee that all concerned neighbors have an opportunity to hear the proposed plan and voice their opinions before any further effort to close pools is made.

A growing array of community organizations and groups have joined the call for public hearings before any pool closure steps are made. Organizations calling for public hearings include:
