Contrary to the promotional material, Spirit of America performances are a glorification of war, misrepresentation of history and one big military recruitment extravaganza.

Compiled from clips from the 2004 Spirit of America performance in Worcester, this video takes us inside the performance and captures some of the recruitment outside.

This Proves What Exactly?

So taking portions of actual letters written by soldiers and their familiy members...citing actualy factual historical events and using things like Lincoln's Gettysberg Address are "misrepresenting history"?

Perhaps instead of running around shouting 40 year old hippy slogans you should have actually read your history books.

The only ones distorting anything are the IndyIdiots.

But then if you actually told the truth or were honest with people it would fit what youo've been told to lipsynch from theKos/DU/HuffPo crowd.

BTW...my 11 y/o son could do a better video editing and graphis job then you supposed "experts".

Lame guys...real lame.

I'm Curious

If the people coming to the show do so ov their own free will, and all of the soldiers performing in this show volunteered for the Army in the first place, why do you care?

I mean it's not like anyone is twisting their arm and making them attend.

Anyone not in the military or a veteran that wasn't planning on enlisting before the show aren't going to leave going, 'OH MY GOD" I've got to find the nearest recruiter.

And they aren't coming where you are and busting your chops for being a complete tool.

So again I ask you, if they aren't bothering you, if it's not affecting you or your life, why does it matter to you?

Brilliant! THIS is going to

Brilliant!

THIS is going to bend public opinion in your favor, end the war in Iraq and bring about Chimpeachment FINALLY!!!

Kudos on yet again crapping on the people fighting and dying for your right to be self rightious clueless a-holes.

they are not dying for our

they are not dying for our "rights". how can you even believe that. even if you want to believe the military was strictly fighting foreign aggressions for "just" reasons, how is "helping the iraqi people and bringing them democracy" supposed to protect our "rights"?
if anything this fighting distracts from the loss of "rights" experienced everyday in our own country by our own government. The "war" distracts from our ever increasing loss of due process, from corporate handouts, from a government that can't just leave people alone, from corruption, from useless laws, etc. by a racist, sexist, heterocentric/homophodic, and classist, etc. society, media, and government.
And BTW, being against shows like this that target impressionable youth to join the armed forces is in no way "crapping" on anyone. in fact fighting this sort of irresponsible and classist recruitment helps people. I personally care more about the health and well-being of those in the armed forces right now than the gov't or society does. The average veteran receives little help from the gov't in returning back to civilian life, no medical help, no financial help. how many impoverished veterans are there? No, your type are content to just use veterans and soldiers as tools for your own ends. let them parade about a couple times a year and promote patriotism, or use them in an argument (if you don't support war then you don't like the people that are dying and that makes you a bad person). they are living beings. they are young. they deserve better than to suffer or die.

Anon

While I didn't write it, I did understand it, something of which you didn't.

I'll rewrite it it in a way you will.

"Kudos on yet again crapping on the people who have in the past and who would be willing today to fight and die for your right to be self rightious clueless a-holes."

You and the IMC types hate the US military, it's more than obvious. No, I don't expect you to admit it. Yes, I do expect you to say things on-line you wouldn't dare same to someone's face. I've confronted you twits F2F and are much more bold when you tucked away behind the computer.

what are you talking about?

what are you talking about? hatred? i love every person in the armed forces so much i don't want them to die for anyone. you seem to want their blood. you seem to enjoy the fact that others died in the past, are dying now, and want to continue that. what better way to kill off the troublemakers, the poor, the undesirables, or the dark skinned than make them think they are dying for a reason more honorable than securing political and economic power for those who have too much already.

Love al of them? Please

Love al of them? Please spare us the pseudo intellectual psychobabble. No one put a gun to any of the soldiers heads and they know the risks of what they do.

Something you don't seem to appreciate.

The final result from the "protest" today...6-10 lame protestors and 7,300 screaming cheering people inside the arena.

Sorry Kevin...you and your group just earned the GIANT FAIL for today.

uninformed opinion

sir, or ma'am, please listen to me carefully. first, i am one of the soldiers performing in spirit of america 2008, and by the way the superintendant did not cancel any trips. the entire stadium was filled with children, and the school buses lined the streets for a mile in every direction. people like you give people like me a sore ass. you dont know what the fuck you're talking about. we sign up to fight. we sign up to go to war. skin color, economic position, dumb, smart. none of these things matter in the army. did you know that 85% of the us army has an associates degree? 50% have bachelors? 30% have masters? no, of course not. you just want to sit there and rattle off with something you heard some whiny crybaby fucking liberal said while sitting on his barstool, enjoyng the hell out of his first amendment rights...
people like you make us sick. if you dont like the country, or its policies, then go to saudi arabia. see how you like it there.

Hey Head Up Your Ass...

"My Type" as you refer to me up there, is a son who's father served from Korea through VietNam and raised us on a variety of Naval bases and as a Husband whose Wife served 10 years before being honorably dishcharged as a Major in the Army. Both of my kids were born in military hospitals. VA benifits helped us get our house, help my Mom keep her cancer med prescriptions below 50$ a month and are paying my BIL's way through college after his stint in the Marine Corps these last four years.

Don't sit there and flap your cock holster at ME about how much you "KNOW" about veterans and how they do and are treated.

You are an absolute asshat of the highest water if you begrudge the poeple who defend your Liberties to be an unpatriotic douchenozzle a little glory and celebration.
