Aliens, zombies, witches, ghouls and an angry teddy bear with a metal cane all turned out at Lincoln Square on October 30th to say, "Vote NO on Question 1 - A Monsterous Idea".
Real Solutions a Worcester based group working to change the climate against those who are poor in Worcester, was joined by the Toxic Soil Busters, Congressman James P. McGovern and other supporters.
Rally participants came together at Lincoln Square dressed as Halloween monsters, to show what a "monstrous" idea Question 1 is for our state and our communities.
Real Solutions recently published their position in a letter to the editor:
"If Question 1, which will be on the ballot on November 4th, is approved by the voters of Massachusetts, the State Income Tax would be eliminated. Real Solutions understands that this would mean a cut in revenues to our state of over twelve billion dollars. Much of this lost revenue would have to be made up somewhere else. We can expect the State Sales Tax, Meals Tax and local property taxes to skyrocket. If property taxes increase, rents will also increase because landlords would pass the increases on to their tenants. Many people who now pay little or no taxes would end up paying more because of these increases. For all of these reasons, Real Solutions urges voters to make the sensible choice - vote NO on Question 1."
Real Solutions is a group of Worcester residents concerned by how poor people are treated in the City of Worcester.
