Do you like to cook? Do you like human beings? Do you prefer food to bombs? Come to Food Not Bombs! (Noon on Sundays at Stone Soup!)
Our numbers are dwindling, plus we have a hankering for some new FNB faces. (More FNB-ers means more interesting, funny, quirky folks for us to know and hug!) We know it's cold outside but we can easily bundle up and huddle together and share the warmth while we share our hot meals with the community.
Food Not Bombs, according to the FNB website (www.foodnotbombs.net), is "one of the fastest growing revolutionary movements and is gaining momentum throughout the world. There are hundreds of autonomous chapters sharing free vegetarian food with hungry people and protesting war and poverty. Food Not Bombs is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to nonviolent social change. Food Not Bombs has no formal leaders and strives to include everyone in its decision making process. Each group recovers food that would otherwise be thrown out and makes fresh hot vegetarian meals that are served in outside in public spaces to anyone without restriction. Each independent group also serves free vegetarian meals at protests and other events."
Worcester's Food Not Bombs has been around for a long time, but that doesn't mean we can't use more help! And right now we could definitely use a hand in so many different ways:
driving to pick up donations
getting a little extra for us when you're out dumpster diving
money to stock up on staple foods such as rice, flour, sugar, beans
donating disposable plates, cups, bowls, utensils, and napkins for serving
setting up a fundraiser event, possibly?
donating canned food items for use in our cooking, or to hand out while serving
coming by to hang out and cook and serve - even coming by for part of it is a big help!
(-no culinary experience necessary or desired. there are always dishes to wash or veggies to chop, but mostly we just hang out and talk and laugh!)

We meet at 12 on Sundays at Stone Soup (4 King St.) to cook, and then we serve from 2pm to approximately 4pm at the corner of Benefit and Main. Come cook with us, or just stop by for some food! It's a positive way to spend your slow Sunday afternoons; it helps initiate dialog in the neighborhood about the issues of homelessness and waste that our culture produces.
