Tonight Worcester's Zoning Board of Appeals declined to hear a petition to overturn the Definitive Site Plan for a development in Quinsigamond Village that would include Worcester's first Wal-Mart.

According to the City's Law Department, a zoning ordinance passed in Feb 2007 takes away the ZBA's ability to hear appeals of site plan decisions.

However, the Board made clear that they can take up petitions on the Wal-Mart development when a building permit is issued.

Thank You, Worcester Indymedia!

I really appreciate you coming to cover the ZBA meeting. It was clear they didn't want to hear anything we said, even to address their reasons for dismissal. I'll keep you updated on developments with regards to a potential appeal to the building permit.

Thanks again for your time and attention to this important issue!

Stop opposing Wal-Mart by Galacticca.com

Walmart Corporation may not be the the best when it comes to certain areas of its operations, but the oppositions that this great company has been getting from certain cities are deplorable and counter-productive.
